Vestibular Rehabilitation is a program which uses movement, exercises and education to alleviate inner ear dysfunctions. This form of treatment is commonly used for symptoms associated with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Meniere’s disease, labyrinthitis, vestibular neuritis plus many more. Many individuals have found themselves suffering with vestibular hypofunction for years and find their symptoms alleviated with a few treatments.

When the vestibular organs are damaged with disease or injury, the brain cannot rely on them for accurate information about equilibrium and motion, resulting in dizziness, vertigo, balance problems, and other symptoms. Some recover from these symptoms without needing any treatment, while in other cases, these symptoms can create major disruption in their lives.

However, if the vestibular compensation process is not successful, a person’s ability to maintain posture and coordination may become overly dependent on input from the eyes (visual system) and muscles and joints (proprioception). In addition, the person may develop new patterns of head and body movement in an attempt to avoid dizziness and nausea.

With vestibular rehabilitation, all of this can be avoided and restore an individual back to a life free of compensation, nausea or dizziness.

Radial Shockwave Therapy using an application of a series of high-energy percussion to the treatment area. The Shockwave is a physical shock of an acoustic wave, not an electronic one. It stimulates metabolism and improves blood circulation to facilitate the healing and regeneration of damaged tissue. Shockwave Therapy can also relieve pain by producing an analgesic effect on the treatment area.

Shockwave Treatment is most commonly used for treatment of the following: Calcific Tendinopathy (calcium deposits on tendons) - eg. Supraspinatus calcification, biceps tendon calcification, infraspinatus calcification; plantar fasciitis; Achilles tendon pain; scar tissue removal; chronic pain

Spinal Decompression is the therapeutic elongation of the spine in a slow, gentle manner in order to relieve pressure on compressed vertebrae and discs. This treatment is appropriate for those individuals who have low back pain that is caused by herniated discs, degenerated discs and/or intervertebral joints with or without peripheralizing buttock/leg pain which has not responded well to other forms of treatment.

The treatment is safe, virtually pain free and usually provides immediate relief. The patient has remote control of the machine through the duration of the treatment, enabling to stop it if even minimal discomfort arises. To achieve the best results, spinal decompression is always combined with other types of physiotherapy such as active exercises, manual therapy and electrotherapy.

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is full-body systemic approach to the diagnosis and treatment of myofascial pain. Myofascial pain is pain associated with pain in muscles or the muscle-skeletal system without a defined reason (i.e. no obvious inflammation). IMS is an evidence-based model supported with clinical research to its effectiveness to alleviate pain.

The effectiveness of IMS is based on a thorough subjective and objective assessment conducted by a physiotherapist to determine neuropathic pain and chronic pain. Neuropathic pain often follows the path of a nerve or nerve root that is entrapped. Chronic pain also has a neurological root and often can not be explained with medical images or scans.

IMS is performed with the use of single-use thin acupuncture needles to release the tension of a muscle surrounding a joint or nerve that has become shortened or distressed. By stimulating that muscle, the muscle is fatigued and is able to relax/release offering relief for the individual.

Temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction is common and can present as pain, tenderness, headaches, clicking and decreased ability to open/close the jaw.

TMJ dysfunction therapy is more than sleeping with night guard. Your physiotherapist will perform a detailed assessment to determine range of motion, muscle imbalances, joint restriction and muscular tension.

Some of the causes of TMJ dysfunction are: clenching/grinding of teeth, trauma (eg. after a motor vehicle accident), posture, stress, and plus much more.

Due to the variety of reasons why TMJ pain can arise, after your physiotherapist conducts an assessment they will determine the source of the dysfunction and begin treatment.
